Run a Clark County Docket Search

Start a Clark County docket search through Indiana's free public case tool. The Clerk of Clark County holds the official court record, but the statewide search lets you look up a case from home. A Clark County docket search works with a party or business name, a case number, a citation, a cross-reference, an attorney, or a bar number. Pick the narrowest court and the most exact fact you have. Clark County and Clarksville Town Court are separate choices, so check the court label on any result. You can see the case header, status, events, hearings, and some documents. Sealed, confidential, expunged, and older material may not appear online.

Name-Based Case Searches

Go to Indiana MyCase and open the Name tab. Choose Clark County. Pick Clark County - Clarksville Town Court only for matters in that separate court. For a person, you can enter Last, First, Middle, and Birth Date. For a company, use the business-name box instead. The two cannot be mixed.

Last name is required if you add a first name, middle name, or birth date. Sounds Like helps with odd spellings, though it will not run beside a wildcard. Cut false matches by filtering on filing dates, status, and category. Before trusting a hit, compare its court, case style, type, filed date, and status.

  1. Choose the narrowest Clark court option.
  2. Select Name and enter the last name or business name.
  3. Add first name, date, status, and category when known.
  4. Open only a result whose court and dates match.
  5. Read the CCS and verify key facts with the clerk.

Search Clark Before All Courts

All Odyssey Courts sounds tempting. It isn't. A statewide name search can bury you in other counties' matches. MyCase caps results at 1,000, sorted by filing date in descending order with 20 results per page, so a common surname can push the Clark match deep into the pile. The official MyCase public search shows how the court selection and filters are laid out.

Select Clark County first. Then narrow the field with a filing window, an open or closed status, and the right category. Widen the net only when a transfer or an out-of-county filing seems plausible.

Case Number Searches

The MyCase Case tab gives three identifier boxes. They are Case Number, Citation Number, and Cross Reference Number. They are alternatives. Enter one. Indiana Administrative Rule 8 builds a case number in four groups. They cover court, year and month, type, and sequence: court-year/month-type-sequence. Copy the whole value straight from a pleading, ticket, order, or clerk response.

MyCase may forgive missing hyphens and leading zeroes, but the original form is safest. Note that its search tips use generic Indiana examples, not Clark cases. Never invent a Clark number from a name. A transferred case can pick up a second number. So run the full number history when one identifier comes back empty. Citation and UTT ticket numbers differ too; ePay uses the UTT, while MyCase may take a citation.

Three Clark Identifiers, Three Uses

Each identifier does a different job. A case number names the court case itself. A citation number links an agency or ticket reference to a supported MyCase record. A cross-reference number can preserve an agency, legacy, or related identifier. That is why the fields are alternatives rather than a combined form.

Case number
The four-group court identifier used for the filed cause.
Citation number
An agency or citation value searchable in supported MyCase records.
Cross-reference number
A related, legacy, or agency identifier associated with the case.
UTT number
The Indiana ticket identifier used by ePay, not necessarily the Odyssey case number.

Keep the punctuation and leading zeroes on your first try. If a new ticket fails in ePay, the state advises waiting up to ten business days or contacting the court.

Case Search Results Explained

A result row may list the case number, style, court, case type or subtype, filed date, status, status date, and public flags. Open it for more. Inside you can find court and county codes, an active flag, an appear-by date, related cases, parties and attorneys, the chronological events, hearing sessions, documents, and public financial data. Criminal files may add charges and bonds.

Case numberThe identifier to carry into later searches and clerk requests.
Case styleThe caption or title, not a finding about a party.
CourtThe Clark court that owns the record and should answer setting questions.
StatusAn online open, closed, pending, or disposed label that later entries may clarify.
CCSThe dated event sequence for filings, hearings, orders, and dispositions.

A result card is not a certified copy. Financial amounts can be incomplete or stale, and a missing PDF does not prove the clerk holds no document.

Clark Search Fields Work Differently

Trailing wildcards are allowed. The catch: a term must begin with a letter or number. A lone wildcard is barred. Sounds Like works on party and attorney names only, never case numbers. It also clashes with wildcard searches. For attorneys, use a name or a bar number, not both. The assigned MyCase search-template source documents the field layout.

Advanced categories include Appellate, Commercial, Criminal & Citation, Civil, Family, and Probate. The interface blocks incompatible combinations. Start narrow, then change one filter at a time so you know what caused a missing result.

Two Ways to Search: County and State

Clark County publishes no separate local case database. MyCase serves as the statewide public layer for participating Odyssey courts, and it includes Clark's six Circuit Courts. The county's role is local custody. The Clerk keeps the official trial-court record and is the fallback when online data is missing or a certified document is required.

Call the Clerk at 812-285-6244 or visit the counter at 501 E Court Avenue when the statewide view falls short. A transcript request belongs with the court reporter.

Clarksville Is a Separate Choice

Clarksville Town Court is the only separate municipal court option in Clark County's MyCase selector. Its address is 2000 Broadway, Clarksville, IN 47129, and its phone is 812-283-1505. Local rules route misdemeanors committed in Clarksville there. County cases stay under Clark County.

This trips up plenty of searchers. A Clark County-only search can miss a Town Court matter, and a Town Court search will never return a Circuit Court filing. The court code 10I01 is a useful clue. Search each option only when the facts support it, and confirm the court label before reading the docket.

Clark Results Above the Limit

Seeing a 1,000-match warning on a Clark County docket search? That cap means the query was cast too wide. It does not mean the court handed you the first thousand rows of a full county export. Tighten the net instead. Cut the date span or pick a single category. Or add a first name or birth date when you have one. An exact case number works even better, since it pulls one docket and nothing else.

The results screen itself is flexible. It offers List and Table views, sorting, refining, and paging through the matches. For a look at how the state court system lays out a results page, see the official MyCase search-results template. It shows the layout Clark County docket results follow.

A CAPTCHA or anti-data-mining check can also pop up during a docket search. Just complete the prompt and keep going with a narrow public search, since it says nothing about whether the case itself is blocked.

Which Cases Stay Restricted

MyCase carries public, nonconfidential Odyssey cases only. Confidential, sealed, and expunged matters may not show up at all. Rule 5 shields whole categories too. That list includes mental-health cases, pre-2014 paternity files, juvenile and child-welfare records, and medical or treatment records. Custody evaluations, CASA reports, ex parte material, and protected victim or witness details are covered as well.

So a missing Clark County docket search result is not proof that nothing happened. The case could be restricted, sealed, expunged, or too old for online coverage. It could also be transferred, or simply not yet digitized. Protection orders live in Indiana's separate protection-order portal. And a verified Rule 9 request is a formal access petition for limited circumstances. It is never a search shortcut.

Official-record rule: Use MyCase to locate and follow a public case. Verify a critical entry or obtain a certified document from the Clark County Clerk or assigned court.
